The PC 40-40 is a PC 40 with a 40MB hard disk from factory instead of the 20MB one. The unit came without floppy drives and without PSU, but had an 80287 co-processor installed, an additional RAM card and two i/o cards.
It is probably the only existing machine with its original keys 🙂

  • RAM expansion: 2MB 16 bit ISA card by unknown manufacturer.
    • DIP settings:
      • 1011111111 = 512kB
      • 1011101111 = 1024kB
      • 1011100111 = 2048kB
  • work performed:
    • whole machine completely dismantled and cleaned
    • PSU recapped with Rubycon 105° caps
    • motherboard and all expansion cards recapped, all tantalums replaced with Rubycon 105° aluminum caps
    • small spots on metal cover and chassis repainted
    • internal battery velcro re-attached
    • all metal slot covers restored to former shine and glory
    • missing floppy drives and missing PSI replaced
    • one corner of the front badge re-glued
    • damaged stickers on the back halfway re-attached
    • missing floppy grounding wires replaced
    • HDD backup [Ghost 2]
  • notes:
    • right-back case screw does not fit, the thread hole is half-covered by the case cover. Put smaller screw in.
    • RAM card issue: only 1MB working, everything above is FFFFFFFF.
