PC 40-40
Serial: DA4 022297
The PC 40-40 is a PC 40 with a 40MB hard disk from factory instead of the 20MB one. The PC 40, PC 40-40 and PC-AT [which are basically quite the same] was available with a second floppy drive [5,25″ / 360kB DD] from factory, and this unit came with that optional drive from factory/the dealer.
The machine’s serial number is also present on that second FDD. It is very interesting that the mainboard had another serial number at first [#000415]. That sticker is still present at the spot where there normally are. Another serial number sticker matching the case, the floppy drives and the hard drive was added at the top of the board. All stickers are original, so this had to be done in the factory or the Commodore reseller workshop, maybe when they added the 2nd floppy drive?
The 2nd floppy drive is from another brand [Chinon] than the first drive [Toshiba]. Why not matching floppies from the same manufacturer? Did Chinon maybe not have an HD floppy drive at the time? Why not take a 360kB drive from Toshiba as 2nd to match the 1st one? Was Chinon so much cheaper?
The unit also came with a very unusual video card. Almost no information for this card is available. No idea if this card came originally installed in that unit or if it was replaced later. Overall the machine came in very poor condition and has not been treated with the due respect. Lots of black scuff marks all around and loads of filth and dirt.
