Scanntronik Handyscanner 64/Soft-Maus

Scanntronik Handyscanner 64

The Handyscanner 64 hardware package consists of a grayscale scanner that was sold by Scanntronik and can be operated on the C64 with the appropriate user port adapter and “Handyscanner 64” software. The set was released in 1989 at an introductory price of 489 DM. A little later the price was increased to 528 DM.

The package includes:

  • The actual scanner “Compact Image Scanner Model: 900/SC” – can also be used on the PC with software and PC plug-in card (for approx. 150 DM)
  • a plug-in module for the user port: The Handyscanner user port interface (developed by Scanntronik)
  • a cable for the connection between the scanner and the user port adapter
  • a power supply (12 V / 0.5 A / 3.5 mm jack connection)
  • a 5.25″ diskette with the “Handyscanner 64” software: Handyscan and Handyfox (programmer: Hans Haberl)
  • a comprehensive user manual

The Handyscanner has a switch for a black/white mode and three grayscale modes, a switch for the resolution, as well as a brightness and contrast control. The scanning area is 60 mm wide.

The resolution is 16 dots/mm (≈ 400 dpi) or 8 dots/mm (≈ 200 dpi).

Scanning times of graphics at 200 dpi and the selected magnification factor (100 is the original size), among other things:

  • up to 20 s at 640×400 pixels
  • up to 40 s at 640×800 pixels

The Scanntronic Pagefox module can be used as additional memory, so that a graphics memory of 640×800 points is then available.

When using fast loaders or other hardware extensions, we recommend using an additional user port switch.
